Aviation 2 Class

Seminole High Students Earn Trust Certificate

Students in the Seminole Aviation II class reached another milestone in drone piloting by earning their TRUST certificates from the Federal Aviation Administration. Nineteen students completed the milestone on September 8, 2022.

Law requires all recreational drone flyers to pass an aeronautical knowledge and safety test and provide proof of passage if asked. The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) satisfies this requirement and includes drone pilots with education and testing on important safety and regulatory information.

SHS student Jeremiah Rice said he is excited to earn the certification and looks forward to flying drones.

“I am excited for my future and the doors that my aviation class is opening."

The students can use this certificate to fly drones recreationally and during their coursework at SHS.

The Seminole aviation program continues to grow in its second year of being offered at SHS. This summer, SHS obtained seven drones through grants from Oklahoma CareerTech and the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission. Students will use these drones for recreation, experimentation, aerial photography, and more.
