Due to a city water issue, Seminole High School will be virtual for the remainder of the day starting at 9:00 a.m. All other school sites will remain in session as normal. High school students who ride busses will be transported by bus back home, students who are picked up will be able to wait until their ride arrives, and student drivers will be dismissed to leave. Students’ work will be available online on their google classrooms and other online platforms.

As the day gets closer, more information will be coming out regarding prom and how SHS is handling COVID regulations to ensure a safe and fun event for our students. We are excited to announce the official date of prom as Saturday, April 24th.

Seminole High School Pom Squad will be competing in the state competition Saturday, December 12. This year, due to Covid, the competition is being held virtually. The team had to submit videos to the competition and they will be judged by the same panel of judges if held in person. The team is competing in the Pom category and the Mix category. Please send some positive words and thoughts their way while competing in the competition!

Our last day 3 winner was Coach Brian McAlvain! Coach “Mac” started his teaching career 24 years ago, working in both Prague and Tecumseh before returning to his alma mater, Seminole High School, 7 years ago. In addition to teaching subjects like World History and Military history, Coach Mac also coaches the Golf team and HS and JH Football. Coach Mac and his wife Sherri have 2 daughters, one of which has already graduated from SHS and the other a current senior at Seminole High School. In his spare time, Coach Mac enjoys golfing and fishing. Coach Mac’s favorite thing about Seminole is “everything” especially the students he teaches. This Chieftain Family is sure proud to have Coach McAlvain! Coach Mac won two Sonic cards, one from Carter Realty and another from Seminole Auto Sales!
Mr. Taylor Wassam was another of our day 3 winners! This is Taylor’s 4th year teaching Spanish at Seminole High School. Taylor loves working with the students and his co-workers. Taylor loves spending time with his girlfriend and their two beautiful daughters. In his spare time, Taylor enjoys nature; hunting and fishing especially. Most importantly, Mr. Wassam loves Jesus. Mr. Thomas Scott was another one of our day 3 Christmas gift staff punch out winners! Thomas was born in Washington but grew up and graduated right here in Seminole. After graduating, Mr. Scott served 10 years in the US Army as an Ammunition Specialist achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Scott has been teaching for 17 years and 7 years ago he returned to his alma mater, Seminole High School. He has taught 6th and 7th grade math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus. Mr. Scott and his wife Catrina have 4 children, Kris, Dusty, Paige and Izzy. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, working in the garden and taking care of his chickens. Mr. Scott also enjoys traveling and has been to 7 other countries and all but 4 states in the US. SHS is so proud to have such an awesome teacher like Mr. Scott in the Chieftain Family! Another lucky day 3 winner was Mrs. Krystal Fitzgerald! Krystal started her journey with Seminole Public Schools in 2011 at BLS working in a Pre-K classroom with Tina Kean for 2 years and then moving to Northwood where she would serve as the library assistant for the next 5 years. After meeting Mrs. Lori Roberts, Krista became a shadow assistant in the Special Education department where she works with Mrs. Roberts in the self-contained high school Special Education classroom. Since 2019 Mrs. Fitzgerald has been working full-time as a paraprofessional in that classroom where she feels she has found her place. Krystal enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 children who are her whole life. Krystal is still waiting for her acceptance letter from Hogwarts, but until then enjoys reading, watching movies, and dancing to her favorite music. Wednesday was day 3 of our Christmas gift staff punch out game and our first lucky winner was Mr. Bob Underwood!! Bob has been in education for 30 years. Bob graduated from Seminole High School in 1982 and his first time teaching with Seminole was in 1996. He joined SHS again this year and is teaching in Alternative Education and also coaching football. Bob’s favorite thing about Seminole Schools is the people he works with. In Bob’s spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and 4 grandkids as well as watching and studying football and riding his motorcycle. SHS is proud to have Bob as a longtime member of the Chieftain Family! Mr. Underwood won two Sonic Gift Cards from Carter Realty and Seminole Auto Sales.
Our last lucky day 2 punch out winner was Coach Shane Stanfill! Coach Stanfill graduated from Seminole High School in 1999 and joined the military shortly thereafter. After graduating from East Central University in 2009, he started his teaching career. He and his family moved back to Seminole to teach at his alma mater a few years later and has been here at the High School for the last 6 years. Coach Stanfill has taught several history courses prior to moving to the science hall last year and is currently teaching Biology, Anatomy and Physiology. In addition, Coach Stanfill coaches football, basketball and is currently the head coach of the high school girls track team. Coach Stanfill’s passion for teaching and coaching does not go unnoticed, the love he has for his job is undeniable. In his spare time, Coach Stanfill enjoys spending quality time with his wife, daughter and two sons. SHS is honored to have Coach Stanfill and his family as a part of the Chieftain Family! Mrs. Lori Roberts is another of our lucky day 2 winners!! Lori has been with Seminole Public Schools since 2017, teaching first at Northwood and then moving to the high school self-contained room in 2018 and is currently teaching both middle and high school students. Lori has been teaching in Special Education for a total of 5 years. This year, Mrs. Roberts celebrated her 26th year of marriage! Her and her husband have 2 adult children and a menagerie of animals including: 2 German Shepherds, 4 cats, 2 hedgehogs and 1 ball python. Linda has an affinity for cleanliness and takes a lot of pride in her job which shows through the SHS halls! Our 2nd day 2 punch out winner was Coach ShawnSnyder! Coach Snyder has spent his entire 25 year teaching career here at his alma mater Seminole High School, starting in 1996! In addition to teaching subjects like Geography, Government, American History and World History, Coach Snyder coaches both HS football and HS baseball for the Chieftains. Sean has lived his whole life in Seminole and is currently raising his daughter, a Senior at SHS, and his 8th grade son as Seminole Chieftains. Coach Snyder’s favorite thing about teaching in Seminole is being about to help people grow into their best selves as they have helped him in the same way. He enjoys working with his father, Coach Mike Snyder, and loves being able to wake up every day loving his job and the community around him. Coach Bare has been teaching for a total of 13 years, spending time in Cyril and Wewoka before joining the Chieftain Team 3 years ago here at the High School! When Coach Bare isn’t teaching subjects like Oklahoma History, he’s busy coaching HS Football, JH Basketball, JH Baseball and JH Football! Thomas enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two daughters, hunting and watching college football, especially his favorite team, OU (Boomer Sooner!!). Mrs. Brenda Presley was our final lucky winner today! Brenda spent her first 12 years with Seminole Public Schools at the Middle School teaching reading, English and science before obtaining her Master’s of education degree in Library Media. She has spent the last 15 years as the Library Media Specialist at Seminole High School. Mrs. Presley loves her job at the high school and most of all she loves our students! This Chieftain family is proud to have Mrs. Presley! Mrs. Presley won a gift card from Security State Bank and also from Seminole Auto Sales.
Mr. Casady Fletcher is another lucky winner today! Casady is a first-year computer teacher this year with Seminole High School. Prior to this year, Mr. Fletcher was working with Blockchain Technology. As a lifelong Chieftain that graduated from SPS in 2008, Casady feels there are few things more rewarding than giving back to the school system that afforded him so many opportunities. Casady attended OBU after high school receiving his bachelor’s degree in Business Finance in 2012.
Mrs. Colleen Schelb also is one of our lucky Monday winners! Colleen has been teaching since 1989! After teaching one year at Shawnee High School, Mrs. Schelb joined the team at SHS from 1990-1999. She took a break from teaching full time from 1999-2005, working as a Medical Lab Tech, but returned to SHS in 2005 and has been with us ever since! Mrs. Schelb has taught a slew of Science classes from Biology to Chemistry and Astronomy to Meteorology! Some of her hobbies include reading, being a nerd and of course spending time with her two sons and her pets, Pumpkin, Moses, Peaches and Squirty. Seminole Public Schools has chosen to delay the start of the 2020 school year. The new first day of school will be August 21st. We have been working diligently to prepare our buildings, facilities, and grounds for the upcoming year. After the update from the Oklahoma State Board of Education meeting, we feel that it is necessary to delay our start in an effort to ensure that we can provide the safest, most educationally appropriate environment for all students and staff. We appreciate your patience and understanding and we look forward to the day that we can welcome all of our Chieftains back to school!

Cheyenne also graduated a year early from the Gordon Cooper Pre Engineer Academy. Cheyenne’s list of community service includes: A League of their Own, Hospital Volunteer, Gordon Cooper Volunteer, church nursery, fire department to name a few. Cheyenne has also been the co-captain and captain of the SHS Colorguard, is a member of National Honor Society (currently the Seminole Chapter president), church leadership group, band, speech and debate and the school newspaper. Future plans for Cheyenne are to attend college to pursue a degree in medicine, eventually becoming a cardiac or trauma surgeon.

Hunter is also a member of the First Baptist Church Youth Group. Hunter has helped with A League of Their Own, Little Olympics, Vacation Bible School and the Annual Pancake Breakfast. After graduation, Hunter plans to attend college to get a degree in Criminal Justice. He would eventually like to be a leader in the Criminal Justice System.
