Seminole edges Bethel in baseball, 9-8

BETHEL ACRES – Luke Weick went 3-for-4 with a triple and four runs batted in while Jaxon Smith homered Thursday as the Seminole Chieftains held off the host Bethel Wildcats, 9-8, in baseball action.

Smith finished 2-for-3 with the solo-blast, three runs scored and a pair of walks and teammate Easton Wurtz was 2-for-5 with three runs scored in Seminole’s eight-hit attack.

Bryce Marshall pitched the final 1.2 innings for the win in relief of the starter Weick.

Bethel, 3-1, received a 3-for-5 hitting effort with two doubles and three RBIs from Jaylon Gordon. The Wildcats’ Kandon Mitchell ended up 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. Carter Monday (1-for-2) and Cache Hankins (1-for-3) drove in one run each for Bethel, which totaled 10 hits.

John Gordon took the pitching loss in relief.
